Robots powered by artificial intelligence are being used by Microsoft to destroy old data center hard drivesas the company explained in a video released in early September. In addition to reducing electronic waste, the process allows for the recycling of valuable materials.
The destruction of end-of-life HDs occurs mainly for protection of stored confidential databut this also leads to the loss of materials, such as neodymium, found in the equipment. Since around 70 million discs are dismantled annually, there is a considerable waste of rare metals.
To solve the problem, the Redmond giant started investing in disassembly of HDs with robotics, using computer vision to divide the device, classify it and destroy the part with data. At the same time, metals are preserved for recycling.
Included in the “Safe and Sustainable Disposal of Hard Drives” project, the AI-powered robot destruction of hard drives is led by data scientist Ranganathan Srikanth and is associated with Microsoft’s Circular Centers program, which aims to achieve bold sustainability goals. One of the plans is become carbon negative by 2050.
Excessive electronic waste and high energy demand
Housing fundamental systems and components, data centers already had a high energy demand, which expected to double by 2026 because of new AI tools. In view of this, projects like Microsoft's are important for reducing electronic waste in facilities that are approaching the end of their useful life.
At Circular Centers, machine learning is used to decommission servers and sort reusable parts. In a pilot project in the Netherlands, the company was able to greater availability of components and lower carbon emissionsfrom the integration into the initiative.
Using AI in the Safe and Sustainable Disposal of Hard Drives, the forecast is to achieve a reuse and recycling rate of at least 90% of HDs by next year.

The second season should bring even greater challenges for its protagonistSource: Disclosure/Paramount+
Besides having to deal with The General, the protagonist Manfredi will also have to face Bill Bevilaquia (Frank Grillo) in the second season of Tulsa King. He is a Kansas City gangster who claims to have rights over the territories of Tulsa, which will obviously generate several conflicts that should escalate over time.
To top it off, the main character will also have to deal with the FBI, which is investigating the deadly war he fought with Waltrip (Ritchie Coster) in the first season. After the launch of the Galaxy M55 earlier this year, Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy M55s in India soon. The new smartphone appears to be a variant of the standard M55 with some design differences, but it is not yet known whether the model will be exclusive to the country or will be launched in the global market.
The Galaxy M55s has been spotted on a Samsung India support page, essentially confirming the model. Before that, Smartprix had leaked a render of the smartphone that shows the visual changes, ditching the all-glossy back for a casing with different cutouts and textures.
The camera module appears to be unchanged, and Samsung is expected to keep the smartphone with the same 50-megapixel main sensor. Thus, the ultrawide camera should continue to be 8 MP and the macro camera 2 MP, while the front sensor for selfies also has 50 MP.
Like the original device, the Galaxy M55s is expected to be powered by a mid-range Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip. The 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM are expected to remain unchanged.
This also applies to the 6.6-inch screen with Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz AMOLED panel. What could really change between the models is the 45W charging for the M55s, as the standard M55 only recharges with 25W. The battery capacity should remain at 5,000 mAh.
The Galaxy M55s has already been certified by regulatory bodies in India and an announcement is expected to happen in the next few days.
Samsung may explore a new smartphone format in 2025. According to information from the Asian website The Electhe company will launch a rollable smartphone next year and should stay away from models that fold into three parts.
The change in direction by the South Korean company would be directly related to the arrival of the Huawei Mate XT, the world's first triple-screen smartphone, recently announced by Huawei. This would have caused Samsung to change its strategy and seek a new way to stand out.
The website reports that the launch is scheduled for the second half of 2025 and the device would have a 12.4-inch screen when fully opened. In addition, the model would feature a front camera under the display for selfies. Additional specifications were not revealed.
New trend is approaching
The development of rollable smartphones is not exactly new, as several brands have been working on prototypes for a few years. Samsung itself showed the concept of a 12-inch rollable screen at an event just over a year ago, shown in the image above. In fact, the display should be the same one used in the device.
Companies such as Oppo, Motorola and Tecno are also actively developing products with similar features. Even LG, which no longer operates in the smartphone industry, has shown interest in investing in this still-embryonic market. However, not all technologies developed as prototypes in laboratories end up being transformed into products for the end consumer.
If the rumors are true, Samsung would be taking a huge step forward by launching a rollable smartphone for the first time. Although the supposed launch is still about a year away, it is unlikely that another brand will launch a device of this type before the owner of the Galaxy.
O The Elec also points out that Samsung has stopped producing dummy copies for stores. Among the reasons is a cost-cutting process at the company, which is preparing mass layoffs across the globe.

Anyone who has ever started a business, or knows someone who has decided to start their own business, knows that the amount of work to be done is immense. This applies to companies of all sizes, from startups to large corporations; the activities may change, but the burden only increases. That's why it's not uncommon to hear stories of 10, 12 or even 15-hour workdays.
Hence the term we often hear on social media – workaholic: a person who is addicted to work. That’s what it looks like from the outside, and it’s often what each professional believes about themselves as well. But I don’t think this is always the case, and it’s better if it isn’t, because it’s a dangerous path that can lead to serious problems in other areas of life.
Operator E-Space is ready to operate its satellite internet service in Brazilwith the authorization published by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) last Wednesday (11). The release was granted after the payment of the first installment of the license, in the amount of R$ 20 thousand, according to the Telesynthesis.
The decision states that the company registered in Rwanda The Semaphore constellation should begin operating within two yearsunder the risk of losing the license in the national territory. The request was initiated in July last year, being the subject of public consultation due to the frequencies used.
The service, which will be operated locally through the company E-Space Brazil Holdings, will be able to use up to 8,640 low-orbit satellites. With this, the company will have the largest project of its kind in operation in the national territory, since Starlink is authorized to use a maximum of 4,400 satellites at the moment.
According to E-Space, its constellation is made up of small-sized equipment, with ability to withstand collisions and collect debris left by others in the same band of Earth's orbit. The operator did not disclose the exact number of satellites currently operating – three were launched in 2022, for demonstrations of the technology last year.
Focus on connection for IoT devices
Although it has the authorization to use a larger constellation than Elon Musk's company, E-Space brings equipment with less capacity. The Semaphore satellites use the UHF/VHF frequencies from 340 to 370 MHz (uplink) and from 267 to 297 MHz (downlink).
The focus of the operation is to offer connection for Internet of Things (IoT) devices, but the company says it also serves other types of applications with low data consumption. In addition, the technology can be used in voice calls and video transmission.
Created by Greg Wyler, responsible for founding the operators OneWeb and O3B Networks, E-Space has plans to launch at least 100,000 satellites in the futureoffering satellite internet worldwide.

1. Lab-Replicated Martian Spiders
One of the phenomena Most intriguing on Mars are the formations known as “spiders” (or “araneiformes”). They were first discovered in 2003 through images captured by orbiting probes. The formations appear mainly in the southern hemisphere of Mars and have puzzled scientists for decades.
These structures are formed when carbon dioxide ice sublimates directly into gas in the Martian spring, creating fissures in the surface and sending up jets of dust and sand that form the characteristic web-like formations.

This month, NASA scientists were able to recreate these spiders in the lab for the first time using the DUSTIE system at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). The scientists simulated the low-pressure, extremely cold temperatures found in the polar regions of Mars, and by heating simulated Martian soil covered in CO2 ice, the researchers were able to replicate the gas jets and spiral formations that resemble those seen on Mars.
This experiment not only validates the spider formation model, but may also provide valuable information for future missions to Mars. Better understanding these geological processes helps refine landing sites and the tools needed to study the Martian surface more effectively.
2. The beautiful Serpent Nebula
Stunning images of Serpent Nebula captured by the James Webb Space Telescope revisits a fascinating discovery: For the first time, astronomers have observed aligned gas streams from forming stars, confirming long-held theories about star formation.
These gas streams, known as bipolar jets, are ejected by newborn stars and collide with the surrounding gas, creating visible plumes of molecular hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The alignment of these streams indicates that during the formation process, the stars rotate in a common direction, which is consistent with the rotation of the gas clouds that collapse to form these stars.
This discovery helps to better understand the dynamics of the birth of young stars, in addition to offer a glimpse of regions that were previously invisible to optical telescopes due to the dense surrounding dust.
3. The Andromeda Galaxy Revisited

The Hubble Space Telescope has captured a new, detailed image of the Andromeda Galaxy, one of our closest galactic neighborss. The galaxy, located about 2.5 million light-years from Earth, has been re-presented in a beautiful image that highlights the vast regions of ionized gas that fuel the formation of new stars.
Studies of this type are essential to understanding how galaxies evolve over time, as well as providing a new glimpse of the object that will mark the future of the Milky Way, since these galaxies are on a collision course, predicted to happen over the next 6 to 10 billion years.

After Huawei announced the Mate XT as the first smartphone that folds into three parts, Honor seems to want a piece of that market. According to speculation from tipster Teme via X (Former Twitter), Honor is working on a phone with two hinges measuring just 10 mm.
Developing a product with so many folds is no easy feat, but making a smartphone that’s just 1 centimeter thick when closed is a notable milestone. For comparison, the Huawei Mate XT is 12.8 mm thick when folded, while the recently launched Galaxy Z Fold 6 is 12.1 mm thick.
Teme did not reveal any additional specifications about Honor's possible foldable. However, considering that the company announced the Magic V3 in recent days, which holds the title of the world's thinnest foldable at 9.2mm, it is no surprise to see the company with such an ambitious project.

Rising market
It's worth reiterating that the world of tri-fold smartphones is something extremely recent. Huawei launched the first one, and brands like Samsung and TCL may also be working on devices with the same mechanics.
Recently, Chinese brand Tecno showed off the concept of a very bold triple foldable. The Phantom Ultimate 2 measures 11mm and uses its multiple folds to offer multiple ways of use.
The triple foldable market is heating up, but it may be some time before Honor announces its thin foldable.
