Uber has announced new measures to verify the identity of its passengers — but this time, to protect drivers. The authentication methods were presented this Tuesday (17) at a company event in the United States.
Just like drivers, passengers will have to go through a more rigorous verification process: the application will compare data such as name and phone number against third-party databases to check for possible inconsistencies.
A platform also added a new verification badge for passengers. To receive it, the user must present an official document in the application and confirm their identity.
Uber will now verify passengers' identities in exchange for a special badge.
When the account is verified, the ride request will appear with the special seal, providing more security to the driver. It is worth remembering, however, that identity verification is not mandatory for the passengerwhile the cross-referencing of information with a database, yes.
In testing since the beginning of the year
The new passenger authentication system has been in testing since the beginning of the year, but in a limited number of cities. According to the company, results were satisfactory “with most customers” of these markets.

Access to websites using Cloudflare services became unavailable in several countries throughout Tuesday afternoon (17)as reported by the BleepingComputer. People trying to open the affected pages were met with an error message informing them of the instability.

Here, we tested a 50 GB transfer to the model and had no problems. The product was able to handle more than 300 files and completed the transfer at an average speed of 134 MB/s, with completion in about five minutes.

Explosions occurred in Lebanon, this Tuesday (17), left at least nine people dead and around 2,800 injuredaccording to information from the local Health Ministry. The main suspicion is that pagers used by Hezbollah operatives were hacked and blown up in a coordinated attack, causing the incident, according to the Al Jazeera.
Quite popular in the 1980s and 1990s, Pagers are small communication devices that use radio signals to send and receive messages. Each device has a code that must be informed to the telephone exchange when transmitting the message.
Pager exploded
Despite having lost ground to cell phones, the device is still used. In the case of the armed group supported by Iran, its fighters began using the old device to replace smartphones as a way to avoid tracking by Israel, since they do not have a geolocation system.
According to Lebanese authorities, Hezbollah pagers were imported a few months ago and explosive charges of 10 g to 20 g were reportedly identified inside themin the middle of a fake electronic component. One of the injured reported that the device heated up moments before exploding.
Confusing story
