One of Netflix's most beloved series, Heartstopper received a new trailer for its third season last Tuesday (17). It shows that, despite having found happiness with their partners, the characters in the story will still need to deal with several problems that come with the process of growing up.

According to the streaming service, the new episodes will show the maturation of the relationship between Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor), who will begin to feel more comfortable expressing their feelings in public. At the same time, self-image issues that plague Charlie could end up being an obstacle to the relationship.

When is Heartstopper Season 3 coming out and what to expect from it?

According to Netflix, all eight episodes of the new season will officially premiere on October 3rd of this year. The author of the original comics, Alice Oseman, explains that the new narratives will show the characters transformed and assuming their characteristics as teenagers, leaving aside the children they were in the not-so-distant past.

“The actors are much older, so I think that automatically adds to the ageism of the show,” she explained to Tudum. She also explains that the new episodes will deviate somewhat from the comics, including never-before-seen scenes like the moment where season two ended — revealing that Charlie has trouble saying the words “I love you.”

This will be a conflict that will continue to follow the character in the new chapters of Heartstopper, as he tries to hide the fact that he has an eating disorder. The situation will reveal the fact that, although we may want to care for a person, we don't always have control over all situations.

Another point in which the adaptation will differ from the original comics is in the way it gives attention to other characters, who bring their own conflicts. An example of this happens with Elle (Yasmin Finney) and Tao (William Gao), who have trouble deepening their relationships due to the dysphoria that the young woman feels about her body.

In addition, the characters will have to deal with issues such as social events, parties, studies and university choices, which can be quite exhausting for those who still have their whole future ahead of them. However, Oseman guarantees that relationships will continue to be the central point of the production.

Series will lose important character

The author also confirmed that, contrary to what many fans might expect, Ben played by Sebastian Croft will not return in the third season. She explains that the boy completed his narrative cycle at the end of the second batch of episodes and, therefore, it wouldn't make much sense for him to still be part of the plot.

On the other hand, the new episodes of Heartstopper will feature Hayley Atwell as Diane, Nick's aunt, Eddie Marsan as therapist Geoff and Jonathan Bailey as Jack Maddox. The latter character will be a big Instagram celebrity, for whom Charlie will show that he has a small platonic crush.

To top it off, the new episodes will feature the presence of Michael Holden, played by Darragh Hand. He is a well-known character from another of Oseman's works, A Lonely Year, and has a strong relationship with Tori, Charlie's sister who will continue to be played by Jenny Walser in the adaptation.
