Four years after winning the first Oscar for Best Picture given to a production not in English with Parasite, filmmaker Bong Joon-ho is ready to present his new project. Last Tuesday (17), Warner Bros released the first trailer for Mickey 17, a science fiction story with dark humor tones.
The film will tell the story of Mickey (Robert Pattinson), a man who, tired of life on Earth, decides to explore space as a Disposable. The job involves performing several high-risk tasks, which inevitably result in the protagonist's death — when this happens, he returns as a clone that has almost all of his memories.
Mickey 17 shows dystopian future
Although Joon-ho is best known for his urban tale Parasite, he has also dabbled in science fiction in films such as 2013's Snowpiercer. These experiences are expected to serve as the basis for the new film, which shows the effects that multiple deaths can have on a person.
Also responsible for the script and production of Mickey17, the director was inspired by the book Mickey7, by Edward Ashton, to tell his new story. While it will initially show Pattinson's character accepting his destiny, the plot promises a major twist from a moment in which a new clone is created, although the current version of the protagonist remains alive.
The feature film was initially scheduled to be released on March 29th of this year, but it suffered a major delay as a result of the Hollywood writers and actors' strike. Now the project is scheduled to be released in January 2025 exclusively in theatersalthough a specific date has not been set.

The production team is made up of Dede Gardener and Jeremy Kleiner, from Plan B, and Dooho Choi, from Kate Street Pictures.

Although I have worked with Hollywood in the past, The best way to get to know Bong Joon-ho's work is through Parasite. The 2019 film tells the story of a poor family who, little by little, manage to infiltrate a high-end house by carrying out different activities for its residents.
With several social critiques and lots of humor, the feature film can currently be seen in the catalog from Max e from Telecine. For those who want to check out Snowpiercer (which has no relation to the Netflix series), the filmmaker's first film in English, You can do this through Globoplay.
